West Side Story

I think most people know “West Side Story”. It’s not only a film but also a famous melodrama in Broadway, the musical play just on National Dr. Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall in Taipei last year. I’m very disappointed that I couldn’t go… Anyway, “West Side Story” is one of my favorite musical films!

It’s directed by Jerome Robbins and Robert Wise, the story of film is about two groups from different countries both want to occupy same place in west side of America. Why refer this film to musical film? Because music all over in that! In that film, all characters are singing and dancing anytime even then they are fighting, walking, talking, sleeping… etc. The characters enjoy that movies’ every actions, I think they won’t feel tired even then dancing few hours.
I love music, so I love musical film, too. I guess that director hopes every audiences focus not only on story but also the characters interpretation. I think watching musical film just like enjoying the musical show :)

The Manchurian Candidate

These two films adapted from 1959 thriller novel written by Richard Condin. The 1962 one was directed by John frankenheimer, and the 2004 one was directed by Jonathan Demme. Although these two films adapted from same novel, but there still are some different actions. Actually I watched the 2004 one first, because I am a Denzel Washington’s big fan! But after I watched the original one, I thought the original one was better than the new one. The original one is much classical than the new one. For example, the action of the chief actor “Ben” is going to been controlled. The original one is by playing a special poker game, and the new one is by calling the real name. I think the change is major point let me disappointedly, and I also think the new one put too much technology inside.

Well, let’s watching the classical part of the original one after so many comments :P
